St Marys Church

stmarysoxtedSt Mary’s is an Anglican parish church serving the town of Oxted in East Surrey. We are part of the Oxted Team Ministry, formed in 2014, which comprises the parishes of Oxted, Hurst Green, Tandridge and Crowhurst.

Mentioned in the Domesday Book, St Mary’s Church remains at the heart of life in Oxted and is a growing Christian community committed to serving this locality. The ancient church was built nearly one thousand years ago and, together with its historic graveyards, provides a unique home for the key moments and memories of our town.

The church tower dates back to the 12th Century. The chancel is 13th Century, the South and North aisles 14th and the entrance is 15th.

The churchyard is circular, containing what are thought to be 2 Crusaders’ graves. They have a cross on top and are next to the West wall. The 5O-ft tower has clocks on 3 faces and six bells on its 3rd floor. The pews seat about 350 people, with about 100 being the average Sunday attendance.
